UTHealth healthcare management program earns CAHME accreditation

The Master of Public Health in Healthcare Management degree program at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) School of Public Health has become one of just five M.P.H. programs in the country to receive prestigious accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation Healthcare Management Education (CAHME).

Considered the benchmark that ensures the integrity of healthcare management education, CAHME accreditation is highly sought after by students and employers. CAHME is the only organization recognized to grant accreditation to individual academic programs offering a professional master’s degree in healthcare management education and is recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation.

“CAHME accreditation is a validation that we are successfully equipping our students to become leaders in healthcare management,” says Lee Revere, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Management, Policy and Community Health and director of the George McMillan Fleming Center for Healthcare Management at UTHealth School of Public Health. “Students who select CAHME-accredited programs know they will have access to high quality content, great teaching and a network of healthcare professionals who will help them secure jobs in their field.”

To achieve CAHME accreditation, the healthcare management program underwent a rigorous, three-year, voluntary peer review process designed to continuously improve academic education. The process began in July 2015 with a year of program self-study and evaluation, followed by a year of program improvement and a year of program enhancement. A final site visit in February 2017 determined accreditation status.

Since its launch in 2010, the Healthcare Management degree program at the School of Public Health has grown into one of the leading programs of its kind in Texas. The interdisciplinary program provides a solid foundation in understanding key managerial functions within a broad spectrum of public health systems.

In addition to CAHME accreditation, which recognizes excellence in healthcare management, the healthcare management program is also recognized for excellence in public health through UTHealth School of Public Health’s Council on Education for Public Health accreditation.
