The Texas Medical Center Police assist in protecting life and preserving property to ensure the safety of the Texas Medical Center employees and visitors. The TMC Police Communications Center is a state-of-the-art facility staffed 24/7, 365 days a year by licensed Dispatchers. All Dispatchers are certified through the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement, a statewide organization established by the legislature to set minimum selection and training standards for Texas law enforcement personnel.

Records & Police Report Requests

The Texas Medical Center Police Records Division is responsible for maintaining offense/incident reports, accident reports, and statistical data for the department. All requests for records must be submitted to our office in writing. That can be done by completing the below form, by visiting our office in person, or U.S. mail. Once the request has been received by our office, we have 10 business days to reply to the request; however, we strive to complete these requests in a timely manner. You can only receive a crime report if you are an authorized person such as the victim, the victim’s representative, or as provided in Section 6254 of the Government Code. We ask that you are detailed and specific on what you are requesting to receive back from our office.

Please read this entire section before submitting a request for records. Please be aware a criminal offense report and associated items such as videos, photos, etc. are not considered public information and will not be released. The only portion that can be released in most cases is the public information portion and suspect information if a suspect(s) was arrested and charged. The public information portion contains a summary of the crime, the complainant’s name, address, date, time and location of the incident the responding Officer’s name(s), the incident number, and is generally all the information needed by your insurance company. The Texas Medical Center is looking for individuals who possess good decision-making skills and good judgment, who can handle pressure, are dependable, are physically fit, possess emotional control and above all, have impeccable integrity. Steps for Become a TMC Police Officer
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
All applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to apply for the position of police officer:
- Be 21 years of age
- Must possess a High School Diploma or GED
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Must be a U.S. citizen (by birth or naturalized)
- Must read, write, and speak English
- Never been convicted of an offense at or above a Class B Misdemeanor within the last 10 years.
- Never been convicted or placed on community supervision of an offense involving family violence as defined under Chapter 71, Texas Family Code.
Phase I
- All applicants must complete the Online Application at TMCPD Careers. After submitting an application online, each one is reviewed for disqualifying factors. Applicants who pass the Intake Review will be contacted via email and scheduled for Phase I Testing.
- Physical Readiness Assessment. Eligible applicants will be invited to complete the physical readiness assessment. The physical readiness assessment required by the TMC Police Department is designed to measure the police applicant’s ability to perform the essential functions of a police officer. Applicants who have completed phase I will be contacted with testing dates. Applicants must bring appropriate athletic training clothes (no tank tops), running shoes, small towel, snacks, and drinking water in a small bag to testing. The three categories assessed are:
- Maximum number of sit-ups in 1 minute (34 required)
- Maximum number of push-ups in 1 minute (34 required)**
- 1.5 mile run in 15 minutes or less
Push-ups and sit-ups will be demonstrated so that all candidates understand the push-up and sit-up requirements.
Phase II
- Complete a Personal History Statement: Applicants will submit an electronic Background History Statement (BHS) within 10 (ten) days of successful completion of Phase I Testing. The form can be found at https://www.tcole.texas.gov/content/personal-history-statement-template In order to prepare for the amount of information required in the Background Investigation phase, it is highly recommended that applicants begin gathering this information immediately after submitting the initial application. The Personal History Statement will be used as a basis for a background investigation that will determine your eligibility for becoming an employee.
- Complete a Release of Information.
- Applicant Interview Board (AIB). During the oral board, the applicant will be asked questions designed to demonstrate certain knowledge, skills and abilities considered basic for the effective performance as a police officer. Candidates should dress in business formal attire for the oral board interview.
Once the applicant completes the Physical Readiness Assessment, and the Applicant Interview Board, the Background Investigation will begin. TMC Police conducts an extensive background investigation to include, but not limited to, contacting all prior/present employers, references, co-workers, ex-spouses, family members, and schools. Also, the applicant’s residential history, record of financial responsibility, military records, and driving history are investigated. Once the background investigation is completed, the applicant’s file is routed through the chain of command for review and approval.
Phase III
Psychological Interview. The psychologist will decide whether or not the candidate meets the mental and emotional fitness to function successfully as a Police Officer.
Pass Medical Examination. The applicant’s physical and medical conditions are evaluated to ensure that he/she can function safely as a police officer.
Pass Drug Screening. Applicants provide samples and these are analyzed to detect the use of illegal drugs.
Hiring / Probation. The applicant receives an official offer of employment and begins the Field Training Program. The Field Training Program will generally last 18-20 weeks, depending on the experience of the applicant. The applicant must successfully complete this program and perform satisfactorily for a period of one year. This period is termed the “Probationary Period” during which time the applicant has the full rights and privileges of a TMC Police Officer. If performance is found to be below what is required, the officer may be terminated.
TMC Police Collaborative Sessions & Emergency Preparedness Council
Emergency directors and security representatives from TMC member institutions and the Houston community at-large meet quarterly to collaborate and share best practices for security, emergency preparedness and response activities across the TMC campus, including major events happening in Houston.
