Houston Hospice Promotes ‘Courageous Conversations’ During National Hospice and Palliative Care Month
Welcomes Community with Open House November 9

HOUSTON (Nov. 8, 2023) – Houston Hospice invites the community to, “Let’s Talk About Hospice,” an open house Thursday, Nov. 9 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at its Texas Medical Center inpatient unit located at 1905 Holcombe Blvd.

November is National Hospice and Palliative Care Month and the theme is “Courageous Conversations.” The month is dedicated to raising awareness about the benefits of interdisciplinary and supportive hospice care, dispelling misconceptions and educating patients who have a terminal diagnosis and their families when it comes to their end-of-life journey.

Opportunities at the open house:
• Attendees will be able to tour the Houston Hospice inpatient unit, learn about the different levels of hospice care available and walk away with a Life Well Lived toolkit.
• Physicians and other health care facilities will learn how and when it’s appropriate to refer patients to hospice care.
• Recruiters will be available to speak with anyone interested in joining the Houston Hospice team.

“Our care teams have supported and cared for patients and families in Southeast Texas for more than 40 years and we remain committed to putting people over profits every single day,” said Rana McClelland, president and CEO of Houston Hospice. “As a community-based, nonprofit hospice, our goal is to provide holistic care for patients and families and educate our community partners through a variety of outreach activities.”

On November 1, Mayor Sylvester Turner and the City of Houston issued a proclamation declaring November 2023 as Houston Hospice Month. Other activities during November include the annual Trees of Light remembrance event November 29 at the Houston Hospice historic gardens for families who lost a loved one over the past year and a celebration for staff and volunteers to recognize their tireless efforts throughout the year on behalf of patients and families.
