Harris Health Hospitals Receive Multiple National Heart, Stroke Recognitions

Harris Health Ben Taub Hospital and Harris Health Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital received national recognition for heart and stroke care from the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association. The 2023 recognitions reflect Harris Health’s elite status and commitment to providing the community with vital life-saving treatment and care for heart and stroke patients.

Though best known for trauma and emergency care, Ben Taub and LBJ hospitals are building a national reputation of excellence in their care of brain and heart patients—particularly ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and non-ST elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) at Ben Taub Hospital.

Hospitals receiving Get With The Guidelines® Gold Plus Achievement Awards ensure heart failure patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines. Ben Taub Hospital reached the aggressive goal of treating patients with 85% or higher compliance to core standard levels of care as outlined by AHA for three consecutive calendar years.

Facilities like LBJ Hospital that receive silver level or a higher achievement award in Get With The Guidelines – Heart Failure must achieve an overall diabetes cardiovascular initiative composite score of 75% or greater. Hospitals that receive the Get With The Guidelines Silver Performance Award have reached an aggressive goal of treating patients to core standard levels of care as outlined by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association for one calendar year.

Ben Taub Hospital is a Comprehensive Stroke Center certified by DNV Healthcare. As such, the hospital meets or exceeds quality achievement measures for the diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients. These measures include evaluation of the proper use of medications and other stroke treatments aligned with the most up-to-date, evidence-based guidelines with the goal of speeding recovery and reducing death and disability for stroke patients. Before discharge, patients receive education on managing their health and get a scheduled follow-up visit, as well as other care transition interventions.
