Community Spirit Award Dinner Raises Over $285,000 for Houston Hospice
Sue White Receives 25th Annual Honor Named for Laura Lee Blanton

HOUSTON (Oct. 19, 2023) – The 25th Annual Laura Lee Blanton Community Spirit Award honored Sue White last night and raised more than $285,000 at the annual dinner for Houston Hospice.

“I accept this honor with gratitude and appreciation,” said White, a community leader and philanthropist.

“Embracing the larger community always has been important to my family,” White said. “Listening, helping and bearing are considered acts of service to others and this is also the mission of Houston Hospice.”

Chaired by Jim Reeder, Eric Nevil, Nancy Etheridge and Franna and Ted Litton, White was honored by more than 300 guests at the River Oaks Country Club who came together to support community-based nonprofit, Houston Hospice, which has provided quality, end-of-life care to generations of families in Southeast Texas for more than 40 years.

“Tonight, we celebrate a legacy of service and dedication at Houston Hospice, as we honor our beloved Sue White,” said Reeder. “Sue has led a lifetime of selflessness and service, so it makes perfect sense that much of her focus is on where life begins and also where and how it ends.”

White received a tribute from her family and then was presented with an engraved Baccarat vase followed by a standing ovation. Guests were greeted at the event with fall floral arrangements generously donated by H-E-B and sounds from Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music students.
