The 2nd Annual Perioperative MCS Symposium is a 2-day hybrid course. The symposium will use modern educational concepts to provide clinically relevant material through an interprofessional and multidisciplinary approach to the perioperative management of patients undergoing mechanical circulatory support. In addition, a complementary advanced critical care echocardiography (CCE) workshop will be offered. The highly interactive approach puts the learner in the position of the clinician needing to make simple, thorough, complex decisions commonly faced when providing MCS and utilizing CCE. There will be greater emphasis on the multidisciplinary approach to complex clinical decision-making. The evolving MCS experience through pediatric and adult populations has led to its further application in pediatric and grown–up congenital heart disease patients. Therefore, this year, we have collaborated with one of the world’s most respected Pediatric MCS teams – The Texas Children’s Hospital within our Baylor College of Medicine community. We are very excited to share an MCS continuum of care throughout all ages.
On day two, you will experience highly interactive learning in small groups (1:4 ratio). Hands-on training will expose the learner to various typical diagnostic approaches to specific scenarios with advanced CCE in refractory shock and ultrasound procedural guidance. Lastly, special sessions with groups of patients will provide an opportunity for their education on perioperative complications in MCS.
