Memorial Hermann Mischer Neuroscience Institute and UTHealth Welcome Mark Burish, M.D.

The Memorial Hermann Mischer Neuroscience Institute at the Texas Medical Center (MNI) and the McGovern Medical School at UTHealth are pleased to announce the affiliation of interventional pain management specialist Mark Burish, M.D. Dr. Burish will direct the Will Erwin Headache Research Center at MNI and will also be an assistant professor in the Vivian L. Smith Department of Neurosurgery at UTHealth.
“The addition of Dr. Burish greatly enhances our Pain Management Program at the Memorial Hermann Mischer Neuroscience Institute,” said Dong Kim, M.D., Director of MNI and Professor and Chair at UTHealth’s Vivian L. Smith Department of Neurosurgery. “The Will Erwin Headache Research Center is dedicated to understanding the cause of debilitating headaches and discovering new treatments. I think there will be a lot of success under Dr. Burish’s direction.”

Dr. Burish is board certified in neurology and pain medicine, and his clinical interests include low back pain, neck pain and neuropathic pain conditions, including painful diabetic neuropathy, post-herpetic neuralgia and post-stroke pain. His research interests focus primarily on headaches and facial pain.

Dr. Burish was a cum laude graduate of Princeton University and received his medical degree from the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. He went on to complete his residency in neurology at the University of California at San Francisco. He is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, American Pain Society, American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine and the North American Neuromodulation Society. He is a co-author of multiple articles that have appeared in various neurology-based publications.
