After submitting an application online, each one is reviewed for disqualifying factors. Applicants who pass the Intake Review will be contacted via email and scheduled for Phase I Testing.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Physical Readiness Assessment<\/strong>. Eligible applicants will be invited to complete the physical readiness assessment.\u00a0 The physical readiness assessment required by the TMC Police Department is designed to measure the police applicant’s ability to perform the essential functions of a police officer. Applicants who have completed phase I will be contacted with testing dates. Applicants must bring appropriate athletic training clothes (no tank tops), running shoes, small towel, snacks, and drinking water in a small bag to testing. The three categories assessed are:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>Maximum number of sit-ups in 1 minute (34 required)<\/li>\n<li>Maximum number of push-ups in 1 minute (34 required)**<\/li>\n<li>1.5 mile run in 15 minutes or less<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Push-ups and sit-ups will be demonstrated so that all candidates understand the push-up and sit-up requirements.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Phase II<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Complete a Personal History Statement: Applicants will submit an electronic Background History Statement (BHS) within 10 (ten) days of successful completion of Phase I Testing. The form can be found at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tcole.texas.gov\/content\/personal-history-statement-template\">https:\/\/www.tcole.texas.gov\/content\/personal-history-statement-template<\/a> In order to prepare for the amount of information required in the Background Investigation phase, it is highly recommended that applicants begin gathering this information immediately after submitting the initial application. The Personal History Statement will be used as a basis for a background investigation that will determine your eligibility for becoming an employee.<\/li>\n<li>Complete a Release of Information.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Applicant Interview Board (AIB).<\/strong> During the oral board, the applicant will be asked questions designed to demonstrate certain knowledge, skills and abilities considered basic for the effective performance as a police officer. Candidates should dress in business formal attire for the oral board interview.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Once the applicant completes the Physical Readiness Assessment, and the Applicant Interview Board, the Background Investigation will begin. TMC Police conducts an extensive background investigation to include, but not limited to, contacting all prior\/present employers, references, co-workers, ex-spouses, family members, and schools. Also, the applicant\u2019s residential history, record of financial responsibility, military records, and driving history are investigated. Once the background investigation is completed, the applicant\u2019s file is routed through the chain of command for review and approval.<\/p>\n<p> <\/p>\n<p><strong>Phase III<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Psychological Interview. <\/strong>The psychologist will decide whether or not the candidate meets the mental and emotional fitness to function successfully as a Police Officer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pass Medical\u00a0Examination<\/strong>. The applicant\u2019s physical and medical conditions are evaluated to ensure that he\/she can function safely as a police officer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pass Drug Screening<\/strong>. Applicants provide samples and these are analyzed to detect the use of illegal drugs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hiring \/ Probation<\/strong>. The applicant receives an official offer of employment and begins the Field Training Program. The Field Training Program will generally last 18-20 weeks, depending on the experience of the applicant. The applicant must successfully complete this program and perform satisfactorily for a period of one year. This period is termed the \u201cProbationary Period\u201d during which time the applicant has the full rights and privileges of a TMC Police Officer.
