HOUSTON (Oct. 28, 2024) – Jenny Kempner and Isabel Lummis brought together Houston’s most prominent leaders and philanthropists last night to celebrate Vivie and Chris O’Sullivan with the 26th Annual Community Spirit Award. The dinner raised
more than $300,000 for Houston Hospice.

“ … it takes a village and I’m so grateful to be a part of this village,” said Vivie O’Sullivan. “We go above and beyond because we care and want to do what we can to help others.”

The O’Sullivans’ reputation as “givers” far precedes them and their generosity is felt by many organizations throughout the greater Houston area, as was evident by the video tribute.

“The transparency with which Vivie and Chris navigate and respond to our shared human condition, our joys and our sorrows, is an ongoing gift,” said Chris Knapp, honorary event chair and Vivie’s brother.

The evening’s festivities were chaired by Jenny Kempner and Isabel Lummis, with honorary chairs Chris Knapp and Liz Winslow. The O’Sullivans were honored by more than 270 guests at the River Oaks Country Club in support of community-based nonprofit, Houston Hospice, which has provided quality, end-of-life care to generations of families in Southeast Texas for more than 40 years.

“Tonight, we celebrate the deep roots Vivie and Chris have in Houston and in the community,” said Jim Reeder, event emcee and advisory board member of Houston Hospice. “Houston Hospice is so proud to be among the causes they so passionately support.”

The O’Sullivans were presented with an engraved Baccarat vase followed by a standing ovation. Guests were greeted at the event with fall floral arrangements generously donated by H-E-B and sounds from Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music students.
