UK Startups Join TMC to Drive Innovation in Patient Safety, Maternal Health, Trauma, Neurology, and Surgery in U.S.
(Houston, TX) – Texas Medical Center (TMC), in partnership with Innovate UK, has announced the third cohort of companies selected for a specialized accelerator at the TMC Innovation Factory. The program welcomes eight medical device startups addressing critical challenges in behavioral health, maternal trauma and drug delivery, fatal blood loss, emergency monitoring, dementia and other neurological conditions, and the development of more precise, minimally invasive surgical solutions.
Through the Innovate UK Global Incubator Programme, an extension of the TMC–United Kingdom BioBridge, founders will gain access to resources, curated networking opportunities, and expert mentorship across TMC’s medical campus and broader networks, helping them refine their U.S. go-to-market strategy.
“We are excited to welcome this new cohort and look forward to seeing their innovations make a difference at TMC and beyond,” said Tom Luby, Chief Innovation Officer of the Texas Medical Center. “Since the launch of our first specialized accelerator through our Biobridge partnerships, we’ve seen commitment and ingenuity from entrepreneurs tackling complex medical challenges. They understand first-hand the realities of these conditions, and TMC provides a unique place to brainstorm, bring ideas to life, test, and commercialize solutions for impact here and around the world.”
The third cohort brings a new approach to behavioral care, with CareLoop Health and Safehinge Primera introducing technologies to reduce risk and support prevention, helping clinicians and caregivers prioritize patient safety and stability.
PeriPear and Calla Lily are advancing women’s and maternal health through a wearable device and a vaginal drug delivery system.
ACT Medical is driving innovation in trauma care, focusing on preventing blood loss from knife wounds.
OmniBuds, the world’s first sensory earable, monitors all five vital signs continuously with high sensing accuracy.
Neu Health focuses on neurology and chronic condition management, providing a smartphone platform to monitor clinically relevant neurological symptoms for people living with Parkinson’s disease and Dementia.
Nami Surgical is developing miniaturized ultrasonic surgical scalpels for robotic surgery, enhancing precision and efficiency and potentially transforming minimally invasive procedures.
“We have seen companies grow exponentially through the Innovate UK Global Incubator Programme, and these innovations have the potential to transform medical treatments. TMC offers an ecosystem where a sophisticated healthcare market, access to capital, world-class talent, regulatory expertise, and cutting-edge research come together in one place,” said Jon Hazell, Partnership Manager – North America and Global Incubator at Innovate UK. “Our goal is that, by leveraging TMC’s academic medical centers and clinical trial infrastructure, UK companies can achieve validation, build partnerships, continue to innovate and accelerate adoption of their products and technologies.”
The third cohort began its inaugural in-person session at TMC Innovation Factory on Monday, September 8, and will continue through September 12. Over the next five months, founders will participate in a tailored program with TMC specialists to refine their strategic plans and enhance their incubation experience.
