Houston Hospice Launches Grief Group for Parents of Pediatric Hospice Patients: First Wednesday of Each Month

2 Minute Read

HOUSTON (June 4, 2025) – Houston Hospice invites parents of pediatric hospice patients who are grieving the loss of a child to attend in-person grief groups the first Wednesday of each month beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the first-floor family room at Houston Hospice, located at 1905 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, TX 77030. The first group takes place today.

While grief and bereavement are part of the universal human experience, losing a child is unique because it is out of the ‘natural order of things.’ It can be isolating, but shared experience is a powerful tool that can be invaluable to the healing process and learning to cope.

These grief groups will offer parents a safe space to connect with others who understand their circumstances. Groups will be guided by a moderator, allowing the parents to have open dialogue with those who have a similar shared experience.

“Our goal is to offer tools that will help parents navigate a new normal by providing them with a sense of hope and belonging,” said Rebecca Clark, LCSW, bereavement coordinator at Houston Hospice. “Many parents feel as if they’ve lost their voice and having a safe space can help them regain it. We’re here to let them know they are not alone.”

Houston Hospice’s bereavement program offers individual counseling, group therapy sessions, and literature for families and loved ones for 13 months past the time of death, and it is supported 100% by philanthropic dollars.

“Our bereavement team is a lifeline offering support to families and loved ones as they learn to adjust after the death of someone dear to them and especially when that someone is a child,” said HoustonHospice.org Houston Hospice/Pedi Grief Group Page 2 April Rose, BSN, RN, CHPN, vice president of patient services at Houston Hospice. “This group is a natural extension of our Butterfly Program for pediatric hospice patients and, as a community-based, nonprofit hospice, our goal is to provide holistic care for patients and families, which includes bereavement services.”
