{"id":2757,"date":"2015-04-23T15:47:48","date_gmt":"2015-04-23T15:47:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tmc.edu\/news\/texas-medical-center-is-hiring-red-white-you\/"},"modified":"2019-08-16T14:59:30","modified_gmt":"2019-08-16T14:59:30","slug":"texas-medical-center-is-hiring-red-white-you","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tmc.edu\/news\/2015\/04\/texas-medical-center-is-hiring-red-white-you\/","title":{"rendered":"Texas Medical Center is Hiring: Red, White &amp; You"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As part of an initiative to hire more military veterans, the <a href=\"https:\/\/texasmedicalcenter.org\/\">Texas Medical Center<\/a> (TMC) and its member institutions will host a career workshop and job fair for veterans this month at the National Center for Human Performance, 2450 Holcombe Blvd.<\/p>\n<p>TMC employers are seeking qualified candidates for careers in a variety of fields, including administrative support, allied health, education, maintenance, finance, food service, information technology, laboratory technology, nursing, research, security, logistics and transportation.<\/p>\n<p>The career workshop will be from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 12. Veterans seeking employment in the TMC may <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hiringredwhiteandyou4veterans.com\/\">register<\/a> for 20-minute sessions with representatives from participating institutions who can assist with resume preparations, mock interviews and additional employment information.<\/p>\n<p>The workshop is designed to prepare job seekers for the TMC\u2019s fourth annual Hiring Red, White &amp; You career fair, which will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, May 14. Veterans are encouraged to register and bring copies of their resumes to both events.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are pleased to announce an additional component to our annual job fair which would not only make it stand out but would best position the veterans for success,\u201d said Larry Stokes, senior vice president of shared services at Texas Medical Center Corporation and co-chair of the Hiring Red, White &amp; You committee. \u201cIn partnership with several veterans\u2019 organizations, we concluded the best way we could assist job seekers was to offer a career workshop prior to the hiring event. Veterans are known for meticulous preparation. \u00a0We feel this workshop is a perfect way for us to support them in a manner which is, quite frankly, in their DNA.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Institutions accepting resumes and applications at the hiring event on May 14 will include The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth), Texas Medical Center, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston Methodist, Texas Children\u2019s Hospital, Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, Harris Health System, Memorial Hermann Healthcare System, Baylor College of Medicine, Texas A&amp;M University Health Science Center, Houston Community College, The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, CHI St. Luke\u2019s Health and Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center.<\/p>\n<p>John Holcomb, M.D., a retired Army colonel and co-founder of the TMC\u2019s Hiring Red, White &amp; You initiative, said employers in the TMC recognize that the training and skills of military veterans translate in the health care setting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe opportunity to hire veterans is a beautiful thing, as they make every organization better,\u201d said Holcomb, a trauma surgeon at UTHealth and the Memorial Hermann Texas Trauma Institute.<\/p>\n<p>The TMC-wide veterans hiring initiative was launched in 2012.
