Emerging Mechanistic Biomarkers of Cancer Chemo-Radiation and Immunotherapy from Mathematical Bio-Physics

We have formed a multidisciplinary, multi-institution team responsive to the National Cancer Institute’s interest in deploying systems cancer biology and immunology platforms to enable predictive modeling of therapeutic interventions. We have developed, from first principles and validated through pre-clinical models and retrospective analysis of clinical trials, first-of-their-kind mechanistic mathematical models of chemo-radiation and immunotherapy response, which describe the complex coupling of physical and biological processes and have identified novel, early biomarkers of patient response. Our long-term vision is to design personalized therapy plans, which optimize immune system and tumor microenvironment biomarkers for maximum therapeutic efficacy.
