TEXAS MEDICAL CENTER ENCOURAGES ALL ADULTS TO BE VACCINATED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE
TMC CEO Bill McKeon applauds DSHS for expanding eligibility to all adults.
(Houston, TX) Texas Medical Center commends the Department of State Health Services for expanding the pool of those eligible to receive COVID-19 vaccines to all adults, regardless of age, occupation or health status, effective March 29. Reaching herd immunity as quickly as possible is critical to creating the safest possible environment so that we may return to normalcy.
TMC urges all adults to take advantage of the opportunity to be vaccinated, particularly in the face of more contagious and virulent variants of the COVID-19 virus. This includes individuals who have already had or been exposed to a confirmed case of COVID-19. All approved vaccines (both the mRNA two-shot vaccines and the traditional one-shot vaccine) are effective in preventing serious illness, hospitalization and death. Side effects from the vaccine have been limited and create significantly lower risk than the illness itself.
The Houston region has made great progress in vaccinating highly vulnerable populations and we are confident that as Texas receives more supply, we will move quickly towards full vaccination levels this summer. It remains both highly effective and important to continue public health measures — masking, physical distancing and staying home when you are ill.
TMC thanks the Houston community for their continued adherence of public health measures. Positivity rates and hospitalizations are on the decline and we expect this trend to continue as more people are vaccinated. TMC will continue to monitor key metrics and collaborate with city and county officials, businesses, and community organizations to assure that we are moving ahead in our fight against COVID-19.
By getting vaccinated, you are playing a critical role in protecting yourself, your family, friends and the Houston community.
