One of the most transformative occasions in the 70-plus-year history of the Texas Medical Center took place on April 23, 2018.

State and local leaders, together with leaders of the TMC, announced the launch of TMC3, a new multi- institution research campus that will foster collaboration amid a culture of competition. The campus will be situated south of the medical center’s clinical campus.

Decades from now, we will look back on this date as a historic moment for the Texas Medical Center, the city of Houston and the great state of Texas.

Greg Abbott, Governor of Texas, is seated in front at the TMC3 announcement on April 23, 2018. Standing from left to right: John Sharp, chancellor of The Texas A&M University System; Edward Roski, president and chairman of the board for Majestic Realty Co.; Ed Emmett, Harris County Judge; Sylvester Turner, Mayor of Houston; William F. McKeon, president and CEO of the Texas Medical Center; Paul Klotman, M.D., president, CEO and executive dean at Baylor College of Medicine; Peter Pisters, M.D., president of The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center; Michael R. Blackburn, Ph.D., executive vice president and chief academic officer at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston; Carrie Byington, M.D., senior vice president of The Texas A&M University Health Science Center and vice chancellor for health services at The Texas A&M University System; and Admiral William McRaven, chancellor of The University of Texas System.
