Chicago-based Briteseed is developing smart surgical tools that make surgeons more confident. Its SafeSnips device system detects blood vessels at risk of uncontrolled bleeding during surgery and alerts the surgeon before an unsafe cut is made.

Briteseed grew out of the 2011-2012 Northwestern University NUvention: Medical Innovation program. The company is dedicated to fostering innovative technologies aimed at improving the health care experience.
