Process

TMC Biodesign founders are mentored through a three-stage development process that encompasses product and business life cycles. With full immersion in the clinical experience, founders gain the fundamentals necessary to transform ideas into products and products into businesses.

STEP 1:

Identify

UNMET CLINICAL NEED

Team spends hundreds of hours conducting ethnographic research to elucidate unmet clinical needs.

Needs are then pressure-tested for commercial potential.

STEP 2:

Invent

NOVEL SOLUTION

Tasked to solve the identified need, the Biodesign teams develop, test, and validate a technology intended to disrupt common practice and generate a commercial opportunity.

STEP 3:

Implement

COMMERCIAL OPPORTUNITY

The mission of TMC Biodesign is to build companies. The teams are expected to build a sustainable company to become the path by which their solution is brought to market.

Biodesign Track

The TMC Biodesign program focuses on medical devices. The track is paired with highly tailored mentorship to support teams as they develop solutions.

Medical Device

The TMC Biodesign program applies proven biodesign principles to help innovators develop novel medical devices that transform patient care. With a focus on minimally invasive tools, implants, diagnostics, and surgical solutions, the program immerses participants in clinical environments to identify unmet needs and spark invention.

Each team receives hands-on support and mentorship tailored to the medical device development process. Prototyping and design work is supported by CDI@TMC, where founders have access to industry-standard equipment and expert guidance to bring their ideas to life.
