STEM CELL THERAPIES FOR CARDIAC CARE: MOVING FORWARD

Regenerative medicine using stem cells offers tremendous potential for treating various medical conditions. Researchers have made significant progress in the past two decades, and initial cell-based therapies are now emerging to treat cardiac diseases. However, some less reputable clinics are marketing stem cell treatments with claims far exceeding known benefits.
At this event, moderated by Maya Pomroy of The Public Lead, physician-scientists Dr. Deepak Srivastava and Dr. Emerson Perin, will review advances in stem cell research for cardiac care over the last 20 years. Baker Institute Fellow Kirstin R.W. Matthews will highlight the central policy and ethical concerns that have emerged during this period.
This event is part of an annual policy lecture series co-sponsored by the Baker Institute Center for Health and Biosciences and the Texas Heart Institute. Support for the program has been provided by a grant from the George and Mary Josephine Hamman Foundation.
The event is free and open to the public. Breakfast will be served before the event.
