Cardio-Oncology Multidisciplinary Practice (COMP) 2023
Overview
This activity is for cardiology and oncology nurses, advanced practice registered nurses, pharmacists, and allied health care personnel who are involved in the management of patients with cancer and cardiovascular disease. Cardiovascular disease and cancer are the number one and two causes of death respectively in the United States. Both cardiology and oncology are rapidly evolving fields that often do not intersect in terms of their educational and training programs. With the development of new targeted cancer therapeutics all with unique cardiovascular toxicities, health care providers must be knowledgeable of both. There is not a consensus on how to diagnose, monitor, or even treat cardiovascular side effects of cancer and cancer therapeutics. This activity is designed to update health care providers on the new cancer therapeutics and a practical approach to diagnosing and treating the cardiovascular adverse events. The expected outcome will be that healthcare providers working in hospitals and in the community will be able to recognize and manage cardiovascular disease in cancer patients more effectively.
