Shaping Houston’s Future in Biomanufacturing

BioPath@TMC is a unique program that connects Houston high school students to rewarding biomanufacturing careers. Through partnerships between TMC and bio-education organizations, this first-ever initiative exposes students to potential life science career paths through hands-on experiences, career simulations, mentorship, and paid internships.

The Goal?

To build a diverse, skilled workforce to help meet the growing demand for biomanufacturing professionals, while aiding underserved youth and driving local economic growth.

Why Biomanufacturing?

Biomanufacturing is the use of biological systems to manufacture critical products on a commercial scale, including pharmaceuticals, biofuels, and industrial enzymes. Biomanufacturing jobs are projected to grow 5% by 2032, with 10,600 new roles expected each year.

Economic Growth:

BioPath@TMC will create new job opportunities for underserved students and attract biomanufacturing companies to Houston, boosting the local economy.

Workforce Development:

42% of TMC institutions anticipate high demand for lab technicians in the near future, yet Houston lacks sufficient life science education and training. BioPath@TMC addresses both needs. A large portion of biomanufacturing jobs do not require more than a certificate program that can be completed after high school.

Career Paths for Underserved Youth:

The program offers alternative career options, empowering students who may not follow traditional college paths and engaging them in Houston’s innovation economy.

Diverse Talent Base:

By recruiting diverse talent, BioPath@TMC fosters inclusivity, productivity, varied perspectives, and a rich biomanufacturing workforce.
