TMC Helix Park is a community-focused space designed to bring people and nature closer together. One of its most peaceful gems is the Pollinator Garden, a serene haven filled with fluttering butterflies, vibrant blooms, and a deep-rooted purpose.
We had the opportunity to speak with Kennedy Wilson, Senior Account Manager for Brightview Landscapes, who gave us a behind-the-scenes look at the planning and passion that went into creating this unique garden.
Where Science and Nature Meet
What makes this garden especially impressive is how quickly it came to life. In just two months, Brightview Landscapes brought the space from concept to reality. But it was not just about planting flowers, it was about creating a substantial ecosystem. The team conducted thorough research into butterfly behaviors, local soil types, plant sunlight requirements, and the key elements necessary for a pollinator-friendly environment.
One plant takes the spotlight: milkweed. These tall, purple beauties are not only eye-catching but essential to the survival of monarch butterflies. Milkweed serves as both a food source and a breeding ground for monarchs, while also providing nectar for bees, other butterfly species, and a variety of helpful pollinators.
Grown With Care
Every detail of the garden was crafted with its tiny visitors in mind. From microlight fertilizers that are safe for insects to carefully selected water that supports healthy plant growth, the Pollinator Garden reflects a thoughtful approach to sustainable landscaping.
Kennedy Wilson shared a favorite memory from the project: working with the bee bombs. These are handmade seed balls filled with wildflower seeds, designed to make it easier to grow pollinator-friendly meadows, especially in harder-to-reach areas. “ I went out to plant a bee bomb, and a while later the bees and butterflies were flying around together,” he said. It was a rewarding sight that symbolized the garden’s role as a vibrant, welcoming space for both people and pollinators.
More Than Just A Garden
Beyond the pollinator garden, Helix Park hosts a range of events and activities year-round, offering something for everyone, from nature lovers to science enthusiasts. Whether you are taking a stroll through the garden, attending a community event, or simply soaking in the peaceful surroundings, Helix Park is a place where connection and care for the environment all come together.
