MCGOVERN MEDICAL STUDENT RELEASES FIRST ORCHESTRAL ALBUM

Houston, Texas — Medical student Mathew Morico is a Renaissance man. When he was a student at Frostwood Elementary in Spring Branch ISD, he was involved with soccer, basketball, and baseball through church leagues and SBSMA. He was a Cub Scout and took art, piano, and chess lessons. When he joined The Kinkaid School for middle school, Mathew fell in love with running and went on to be a cross country and track star and added the guitar and trumpet to his musical education. After graduating from The Kinkaid School in 2015, he attended the University of Notre Dame as an Italian major. After studying abroad in Italy during college and graduating from ND, Mathew moved back to Houston for medical school at The University of Texas McGovern Medical School. During his second year of medical school, he was the co-editor of a medical handbook, “Smartphone Apps for Health and Wellness,” with cardiologist Dr. John P. Higgins.

Mathew is in his last year of medical school, though he graduates in May of 2025, because he is currently pursuing a year-long masters at SDA Bocconi in Milan, Italy, in international healthcare management (prior to his medical school completion). Mathew ultimately wants to have a dual medical practice in the US and Italy, and this was the route he figured would be most beneficial. He is learning a lot about both medicine and management and has made some incredible international connections these past few years. He continues to run and has participated in marathons in Italy and Spain. Upon graduation from medical school next year, Mathew is hoping to do a residency in Med-Peds.

In addition to Mathew’s academic and athletic pursuits, he has also been deeply involved in music composition. His first cinematic orchestral album “Adventures of Solitude” was released on April 1st, and is now available on all major streaming platforms. It has been gaining good traction in the neoclassical world (which is very niche). He composes music as a way to relax from his busy medical life.
