Eight Candles This Year for David

The Texas Medical Center's most famous patient, David, celebrated his eighth birthday on September 21 at home in his three-room plastic isolator "bubble." He received a number of "Star Wars" toys. Under the care of Baylor College of Medicine physicians for severe combined immune deficiency (SCID) which makes him incapable of resisting infection, David is a bright, creative second grader keeping up the learning pace of his classmates at school. He is visited by teachers while at home and at Texas Children's Hospital (TCH) in the bubble.
