St. Luke’s Opens New Diagnostic and Treatment Center St. Luke’s Episcopal Health System opened St. Luke’s Diagnostic and Treatment Center-Kirby Glen at 2457 South Braeswood, Nov. 4. The facility offers patient services in several areas, including radiation therapy, pulmonary function testing, medical imaging, sleep disorder testing, travel medicine and infusion service.“Opening this facility relatively close to but outside the boundaries of the Texas Medical Center permits us to offer some of our most in-demand services at a location that is very convenient for our patients,” noted David Helfer, senior vice president and executive director, St. Luke’s Health Network. “At the same time, patients and physicians alike can be assured that in this new setting, quality levels of services are consistent with those provided at the hospital.” Located in a space formed by the triangle of Main Street, Kirby and South Braeswood, the new center features free parking immediately adjacent to the facility. Added and expanded services at the Kirby Glen facility include: • St. Luke’s Texas Cancer Institute’s Infusion Center (formerly located in St. Luke’s Medical Tower) is expanding the number of its exam and procedure rooms for oncology specialists to treat patients. St. Luke’s Texas Cancer Institute will also open its radiation oncology department with a dedicated, on-site, board-certified radiation oncologist and certified radiation therapists. Early next year, St. Luke’s Cancer Institute will offer Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy, advanced technology designed to attack cancer cells without damaging healthy nearby cells. • St. Luke’s Lung Institute, a regional center for expert lung care, is providing specialized ongoing care and treatment to patients with all types of chronic lung diseases by board-certified pulmonary specialists. • Significantly expanded sleep studies are being offered, especially for the diagnosis of sleep apnea. For 10 years, St. Luke’s has offered in-hospital sleep studies, but with the addition of four new rooms at Kirby-Glen, the total number of rooms is now 10. The registered sleep technologists at both locations are trained respiratory therapists licensed by the state, while the specialist physicians who evaluate studies are all board-certified in sleep medicine.
