Burlington Resources has donated $1.5 million to Texas Children’s Hospital – the largest corporate donation in the hospital’s history and among the largest corporate gifts to a U.S. children’s hospital this year.

The donation brings Texas Children’s current $80 million "Building for Children" capital campaign to within more than two-thirds of its goal.

"This gift from Burlington is an important contribution and we are deeply grateful," said Mark A. Wallace, president and CEO of Texas Children’s Hospital. "But the gift means more to us than that. Coming from such a leader in Houston’s corporate community, it is an impressive sign of confidence in Texas Children’s vision and the hospital’s ability to realize it. We are proud of our relationship with Burlington Resources and its employees."

Burlington Resources, an independent oil and gas exploration company headquartered in Houston, is involved in the domestic and international exploration, development, production and marketing of oil and gas.

"Burlington Resources intends to be a leading corporate citizen in all the communities in which we operate," said Bobby S. Shackouls, chairman, president and CEO of Burlington Resources. "We believe in providing financial support to worthy charitable causes, and just as importantly, we encourage our employees to become involved in philanthropy and volunteerism on a personal level."

Texas Children’s position as one of the country’s pre-eminent facilities was a factor in the corporate decision, Shackouls said.

"When Burlington chose Texas Children’s as the recipient of this contribution, we did so with the knowledge and assurance that our gift would be used wisely to help as many deserving children as possible," he said.

The hospital will recognize this landmark donation by naming a section of its emergency center in honor of the corporation.

Texas Children’s Building for Children capital campaign, chaired by Nancy Gordon and O. Holcombe Crosswell, will raise $80 million in philanthropic gifts to support the hospital’s $345 million expansion, which will be complete in 2003.
