Dr. Carl Sandler, a member of The University of Texas Medical School at Houston faculty since 1977 and a vice chairman of the radiology department, was recently named interim chair of that department.

Dr. Sandler, a graduate of Tufts University School of Medicine, has held leadership roles for UT-Houston Medical School's Faculty Senate and the Faculty Appointments, Promotions and Tenure Committee, while serving on numerous committees representing UT faculty. Additionally he is active in and has published research, while holding multiple Dean's Excellence in Teaching Awards.

Dr. Stanford Goldman, who has been the chairman of the Department of Radiology since 1993 at UT-Houston Medical School, announced he was stepping down from the role to remain on the faculty as professor and chief of genitourinary radiology.

"Dr. Goldman has shown strong leadership and has facilitated many academic accomplishments that reflect positively on both the department and the School," said Dean Maximillian Buja. "I am extremely grateful for his many contributions that have benefited faculty, residents, and students alike. His focus on service to patients and physicians has been particularly noteworthy. I am confident that Dr. Sandler will serve effectively in his new interim leadership role, as he is no stranger to the school or the department, and has a strong track record in both venues. I anticipate he will hold this position through this fiscal year and until a permanent chair is identified and in place."

Dr. Goldman, a graduate of Albert Einstein College of Medicine, is an international lecturer in genitourinary radiology. Prior to coming to UT-Houston Medical School he was the radiologist in chief at Francis Scott Key Medical Center, part of Johns Hopkins Health System in Baltimore.
