Former Johns Hopkins VP Heads Ben Taub By JOHN MARTINEZ Harris County Hospital District Terence T. Cunningham, former vice president at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, has been appointed administrator of the Harris County Hospital District's Ben Taub General Hospital. Cunningham brings more than 20 years of administrative experience to the hospital district. At Johns Hopkins, he was responsible for setting the hospital's strategic direction and overall operational goals. His work at the 1,025-bed facility included product line budgeting, new program development, day-to-day operations, expense control and the annual management of 40,000 admissions and 575,000 outpatient visits. During his six-year tenure at Johns Hopkins, Cunningham was responsible for improved revenue collections of $17 million annually and nearly $40 million in cost-saving measures. "We are pleased to hire an administrative executive like Mr. Cunningham with a record of success," said David Lopez, chief operating officer of the hospital district. "His expertise and experience in health care will be a great addition." Cunningham was selected from an extensive pool of more than 100 national candidates. He succeeds former Ben Taub administrator Bill Adams who retired in April. Ben Taub Hospital is a 588-bed facility. Approximately 80 percent of Ben Taub's inpatients are admitted as emergency patients. Last year, Ben Taub treated more than 100,000 emergency patients through its Level 1 Trauma Center, 23,500 adult and pediatric admissions and more than 143,000 specialty clinic visits. The Hospital District is the nation's fourth largest metropolitan public health care system of its kind. It provides quality health care to Harris County residents through a system of three hospitals-Ben Taub General Hospital, Lyndon B. Johnson General Hospital and Quentin Mease Community Hospital; 11 community health centers, a dental center, the Thomas Street Clinic for treatment of HIV/AIDS, and six school-based clinics. ©2006 Texas Medical Center E-Mail: tmcinfo@texmedctr.tmc.edu URL: http://www.tmc.edu/tmcnews/11_01_00/page_04.html |
