- "Doors," a photographic exhibit and benefit for neuromuscular research at Baylor College of Medicine, will open Oct. 21, at the Robert McClain Gallery, 2818 Kirby, and run through Oct. 28. There will be an opening reception on Oct. 21, from 6-8:30 p.m. The photos taken by Dan Wainberg depict a personal view of Russia, Yemen, India, Indonesia and Egypt where Wainberg and his wife Doreen traveled. Doreen was diagnosed with ALS, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or Lou Gehrig's disease, in 1996, but the couple continue to plan their trips abroad. - National Veterans Creative Arts Festival, sponsored by the Houston Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Nov. 2-9. The culmination of a year-long fine arts talent competition open to all veterans receiving care at one of the VA hospitals across the country. A week of rehearsals and workshops (held at the Crowne Plaza Medical Center) will culminate on Sunday, Nov. 8, with a gala variety stage show and art exhibit at the University of Houston's Cullen Performance Hall.
