The Methodist Hospital Board of Directors announced Sept. 25 that Ronald G. Girotto has been named president and chief executive officer. Girotto has served as acting president and CEO for the past year.

“Ron’s past and present contributions to Methodist are helping to build our future and the board is extremely pleased that he has agreed to accept this appointment,” said Methodist board chairman John Bookout. “His unyielding dedication, strong relationships with the board, physicians and staff, and his enthusiastic leadership ensures that Methodist will continue to be one of the foremost hospitals in the country.”

In his tenure, Girotto will focus on reinforcing relations between Methodist and its physicians by focusing on excellence, seeking new and enhanced program initiatives, and continuing the longstanding affiliation between Methodist and Baylor College of Medicine.

“Everything I do will be consistent with Methodist’s mission to offer excellence, the highest quality medical care and service to our patients,” Girotto said.

Girotto spent 22 years with Methodist before retiring in December 1999. He has served in a variety of executive and administrative positions since 1977. Before his retirement, he held the position of executive vice president, chief operating officer and chief financial officer.

Prior to working in health care, Girotto worked in the banking and oil and gas industries for several years. He also served in the U. S. Army as a 1st Lt. in the Signal Corps.

He is active and has served in a variety of professional organizations, including the American College of Healthcare Executives, the Greater Houston Hospital Council, and the Gulf Coast Independent Organ Procurement Organization, as well as at the Texas A&M University Institute for Biosciences and Technology.

He is currently chairman of the finance committee and immediate past chairman of the board of directors for the Strake Jesuit College Preparatory School, and chairman of the finance committee for the Blue Bird Circle for Pediatric Neurology.
