Pianist Van Cliburn Living Legend Honoree By DANNI SABOTA The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center In keeping with the tradition of famous personalities and world leaders, pianist Van Cliburn will be the featured guest for "A Conversation with a Living Legend" to benefit The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center Oct. 24 at the Wyndham Anatole Hotel in Dallas. During the program, which will have an interview format, ABC News personality Sam Donaldson will chat with the musician as a luncheon crowd listens in on the conversation. An 11 a.m. VIP reception will kick off the event, with the luncheon starting at 11:45. Complimentary parking will be available for luncheon attendees. "Finding out each year who our Living Legend honoree will be is definitely one of the highlights of working on this committee and on behalf of M.D. Anderson - it gives you a miraculous spark of energy to really move forward, plan every detail and knock on every door," says Dallas' Sally Hoglund, who is co-chairing the event with her husband, Forrest, the current chairman of M.D. Anderson's Board of Visitors. Since 1980, "A Conversation with a Living Legend" has raised more than $3.2 million to fund numerous cancer research initiatives and patient programs at M.D. Anderson. Past personalities who have been honored as "Living Legends" are: Nolan Ryan, Tom Landry, Walter Cronkite, Arnold Palmer, Margaret Thatcher, Barbara Bush, Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf, Dr. Henry Kissinger, Gen. Colin Powell, former President George Bush and Arnold Schwarzenegger. ExxonMobil is the presenting sponsor of this event.
