Children at Risk Honors Feigins, Raises Funds for Advocacy Children at Risk recently honored Drs. Ralph and Judith Feigin with the "Accolades 2001" award. Dr. Ralph Feigin is president and CEO of Baylor College of Medicine and surgeon in chief at Texas Children's Hospital, and Dr. Judith Feigin is a clinical assistant professor of pediatrics at Texas Children's. Children at Risk is a local children's advocacy organization. The Feigins were honored for their life-long contributions toward improving the quality of life for Houston's children. Also honored during the luncheon were several elected officials, each receiving a "Voice for Children" award. This was the first time this particular award had been given. Recipients included Mayor Lee Brown, for his support of after-school programs; and County Judge Robert Eckels, state Rep. Garnet Coleman, and Gov. Rick Perry, for their support of the state's "Medicaid Simplification" bill, which passed in the last legislative session, and for their support of CHIP, the children's health insurance plan. Event chair Gloria Gonzales Roemer said the event raised approximately $75,000 to support the advocacy programs of Children at Risk. "Anytime we can devote more funding toward improving the quality of our children's lives, we have accomplished something important," Roemer said. Children at Risk has been serving as the "Voice of Houston's Children" since its founding in 1989. ©2006 Texas Medical Center E-Mail: tmcinfo@texmedctr.tmc.edu URL: http://www.tmc.edu/tmcnews/10_15_01/page_12.html |
