Texas Children's Pediatrics Associates Mark Fifth Anniversary By BILL ZANDER Texas Children's Hospital Texas Children's Pediatric Associates (TCPA), the nation's largest group of general pediatricians, recently celebrated its fifth anniversary. TCPA, part of Texas Children's Hospital's Integrated Delivery System, includes 44 practices and 125 physicians throughout the Houston area. Since the group acquired its first practice, Ashford Pediatric Associates in 1995, it has exceeded growth goals. More than 850,000 patient encounters are expected to take place this year at TCPA practices, which employ almost 600 staff. In 1996, TCPA's first full year of operation, 170,000 patients were seen. "Our committed and dedicated team of physicians, staff and management has created a tremendous success in a short time, when similar organizations have come and gone," says Ayse McCracken, president of TCPA. "We have a lot to be proud of for the past five years and can look forward to a very exciting future." In the early 1990s, the premise of TCPA was envisioned by Dr. Ralph D. Feigin, Texas Children's Hospital's physician in chief and president and CEO of Baylor College of Medicine. The health care industry was experiencing rapid consolidation, and community pediatricians in Houston expressed an interest in affiliating with Texas Children's Hospital. In response, Texas Children's embarked on an initiative to provide complete pediatric services that could effectively compete for managed-care contracts. ©2006 Texas Medical Center E-Mail: tmcinfo@texmedctr.tmc.edu URL: http://www.tmc.edu/tmcnews/10_15_00/page_07.html |
