Women's Health Symposium,
Oct. 21

Women's health issues get a boost into the new millennium Oct. 21 at a symposium hosted by The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. Former first lady Barbara Bush will give the keynote address during the program at The Warwick, 5701 Main St. The Healthy Woman's Symposium, sponsored by the Blanton and Davis Ovarian Cancer Research program at M. D. Anderson, will provide timely information for healthy women as well as persons living with cancer. Additional speakers include Toronto physician and best-selling author Robert Buckman and experts from M. D. Anderson and other Texas Medical Center health organizations. Program topics include: acupuncture, plastic surgery, complementary and alternative medicine, the latest cancer prevention and screening information, and updates on clinical research to advance treatment of ovarian and breast cancers. A $50 registration fee includes lunch. The program begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 2 p.m. For more information about the symposium or to register, call 713-792-2222.



  • Many Faces of Lupus Walk 1999, sponsored by the Texas Gulf Coast Chapter, Lupus Foundation of America, Oct. 23, beginning at 8 a.m., at the Jewish Community Center, 5601 South Braeswood. Weird Science Weekend: Mother Earth, Oct. 7th (4-7 p.m., free), 9th (9 a.m.-5 p.m.) and 10th (noon-5 p.m.): Special stories and hands-on activities that will teach ways to keep our planet healthy and clean for future generations. Programs also available in Spanish. On Sat., Oct 9, the Weird Scientists will show how the environment keeps you healthy.

My Health, My World/Unit 2, Teacher Workshop, Oct. 16, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. A complete teaching unit takes a look at water; activity guide. Pre-registration, please.
