How to Navigate Fannin Street
During METRORail Construction

Whether you work in the Texas Medical Center or you're just passing through, you're sure to have encountered the construction along Fannin Street. It's an inconvenience now, METRO officials say, but when the renovation is complete, pedestrians and motorists alike will find it easier and safer to travel through the Texas Medical Center on Fannin. The street has been re-paved, curbs have been replaced and the Fannin Street bridge is being rebuilt to accommodate future drainage improvements to Brays Bayou; plus, METRORail will operate in the Texas Medical Center along the new Fannin corridor, beginning in 2004. METRO police are assisting with traffic movements during construction. This "first aid" for Fannin will ensure the Texas Medical Center will continue to expand and grow, say METRO officials, while providing the highest quality healing and learning environment for Houston and the world.

If you are used to traveling on Fannin to reach the Texas Medical Center, you're probably looking for another route.

Here are a few alternatives to make your commute faster and easier:

  • From U.S. 59 South (the Southwest Freeway), take the Kirby exit to Holcombe

  • From U.S. 509 North (the Eastex Freeway), take State Highway 288 to MacGregor or Holcombe

  • From Loop 610, southwest, take the Main Street exit

  • From Loop 610, east, use State Highway 288
