Extended METRO Bus Routes Now in Service <

METRO is now offering extended service to the Texas Medical Center campus on two of its bus routes. The extended service on the 291 North Shepherd (which now begins at the Kuykendahl Park & Ride lot) and the 292 Westwood (which now begins at the West Bellfort Park & Ride lot) started on August 29 in response to public requests for more direct routes. Parking at the two lots is free is bus riders.

"We are thrilled with the extended service," says Julie Gilbert, vice president of communications and marketing for METRO. "We don't have exact numbers yet, but we have gotten a lot of positive feedback and the seats are filling up fast."

Cheryl Smith, Texas Medical Center employee and a rider of the 291 bus route, says she has been very pleased with the change. "The Texas Medical Center employees who live in the north part of Houston are very fortunate that METRO has extended this route. It allows us to get to and from work in a very stress-free and safe environment, and I hope to see more and more people taking advantage of the service everyday."

According to Gilbert, METRO is hoping to extend other routes to the TMC campus in January. The extended service allows riders to come to the TMC campus without a transfer downtown.
