FROM THE PRESIDENT

Congratulations to Ralph D. Feigin, M.D., on a quarter century of service to Texas Children's Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine.

Dr. Feigin has contributed to the health and well-being of not only local children, but those all over the world. He believes in taking care of one child at a time, incorporating cutting-edge care and human compassion.

In 1977, the year Dr. Feigin joined Texas Children's, the hospital was only seven floors tall and had no stand-alone emergency room, no operating rooms and no independent pharmacy.

During Dr. Fegin's 25-year tenure, the hospital has expanded to include the Texas Children's Newborn Center, the nation's largest and busiest neonatal care center; the Texas Children's Heart Center, which now has surgical survival rates of nearly 100 percent; and Texas Children's Cancer Center and Hematology Service, the largest pediatric cancer center in the Southwest, and one of the largest in the nation.

Today, Texas Children's is on the verge of completing one of the largest expansion projects in its history, including a new 16-story outpatient Clinical Care Center and expanding the West Tower to a 20-story inpatient facility.

For the last three consecutive years, Texas Children's Hospital has been ranked among the top 10 pediatric hospitals in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, and has placed in the top five best in a survey by Child magazine.

In addition to his pediatric patients, Dr. Feigin also specializes in infectious diseases and how to control them. He is currently serving as chairman of the city of Houston's Medical Advisory Steering Committee, a component of the city's Medical Strike Team. The committee is working hard to ensure the safety of all Houston residents by coordinating efforts to prepare, should bioterrorist activities occur in our city, and defining health care provider roles, should the need arise.

Dr. Feigin's leadership and vision are a big part of the reason Texas Children's Hospital is internationally renowned. We appreciate and applaud his efforts as a champion for children.
