Texas Children's First to Adopt New `832' Area Code The area code and all telephone prefixes at Texas Children's Hospital will change Sept. 30 to accommodate the hospital's growth. Texas Children's ongoing $345 million expansion project, which will increase the hospital's current space by 1.2 million square feet, will provide additional operating suites, intensive-care beds, research space and ambulatory-care facilities and clinics. The project will require at least 1,000 new employees and new phone and fax numbers throughout the hospital system. "To accommodate the expansion, we'll need approximately 2,900 new numbers for phones, faxes and modems," said Pat Perry, vice president of Texas Children's Information Services Department. "The new numbers are a major step in the expansion process, and we're confident the transition will be successful." No significant groups of numbers are available in the 713 area code, so Texas Children's took the initiative to be the first Texas Medical Center hospital to change to the new area code. In addition, the hospital was able to secure the 824 prefix, which spells TCH. Beginning Saturday, Sept. 30, the following changes will be made to all Texas Children's Hospital phone and fax numbers:
The hospital's main telephone number will be 832-824-1000. For a complete list of Texas Children's clinic phone numbers, visit www.texaschildrenshospital.org. ©2006 Texas Medical Center E-Mail: tmcinfo@texmedctr.tmc.edu URL: http://www.tmc.edu/tmcnews/09_15_00/page_02.html |
