The Force of Character: And the Lasting Life
Psychologist James Hillman, author of the bestseller, The Soul's Code, continues his exploration of the concept of character as the source for who we are in his new book, The Force of Character: And the Lasting Life. In this effort, Hillman, a Jungian analyst, discusses character in the context of aging, challenging conventional thoughts about what it means to be old. Hillman offers the explanation that one grows older in order to complete his or her character. His theory suggests that the physical and mental changes that take place during old age are metaphors for character, and that by experiencing these changes we reveal who we truly are. In the preface, Hillman writes, "Aging is no accident. It is necessary to the human condition, intended by the soul." Hillman is a renowned scholar, lecturer and author of more than 20 books. He is the former director of the Jung Institute in Zurich and has held teaching positions at Yale University, the University of Chicago and Syracuse University. James Hillman will appear at the C.G. Jung Education Center for a lecture and book signing on Saturday, October 16, at 7 p.m. The evening event will also include a dessert buffet. A minimum contribution of $60 is required for this function. Hillman's appearance is generously underwritten, in part, in honor of Jungian analyst Ron Schenk, Ph.D. - KRISTINA VAN ARSDEL ©2006 Texas Medical Center E-Mail: tmc-info@tmc.edu URL: http://www.tmc.edu/tmcnews/09_01_99/page_16.html |
