TMC Laundry Celebrates Its 25th Texas Medical Center Laundry, a cooperative association of The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, Memorial Hermann Healthcare System and Texas Medical Center - celebrated its 25th year of operation at a reception held Aug. 8. The laundry opened in 1974. Since its opening, the laundry has processed an estimated 180 million pounds of linen and laundry.
At the Aug. 8 reception, Tim Coyne, the laundry's general manager, addressed the assembled staff and guests. "We are proud of our contribution and the level of service we have provided our customers. Your expertise enables us to customize for any hospital's needs. Our quality is the very best because of you," he told the laundry personnel. Also in attendance were the laundry's board members: Michael Best and John Crossley of M. D. Anderson Cancer Center; Marshall Heins of Memorial Hermann; and Henry Reitz, Texas Medical Center. During the past decade, M. D. Anderson and Hermann Hospital were the laundry's major customers. In 1998, the Harris County Hospital District became a customer, adding an additional four million pounds of laundry annually, bringing the annual volume to 11 million pounds. This September, The Methodist Hospital begins using the laundry's services. At the reception, the staff and board members recognized Robert McGuire for his 25 years of service to the laundry. He was on staff as a washman the day the laundry opened. After less than one year, he was promoted the engineer. - ROGER WIDMEYER ©2006 Texas Medical Center E-Mail: tmc-info@tmc.edu URL: http://www.tmc.edu/tmcnews/09_01_99/page_06.html |
