Memorial Hermann Highlighted in New Reality Series

"Women Docs," a new Lifetime series, is a journey into the real world of women doctors - the patients, the emotions, the life-or-death decisions, the medical miracles, the pull of home and family, and the hospital politics. From young physicians facing their first medical challenges to seasoned doctors grappling with moral and ethical decisions, the series witnesses the day-to-day complexities of more than 80 female doctors around the country, many who are tops in their fields.

The series, which began Aug. 11, introduces four female doctors with amazing lives, who have experienced personal triumphs and sacrifices that have helped shape who they are. With varied cultural backgrounds and different fields of expertise - orthopedics, internal medicine, oncology, neurology, neonatology and pediatrics - these doctors include a hematologist/oncologist who was deeply affected when both her husband and brother were diagnosed with leukemia and now performs stem cell transplants; an OB/GYN who has delivered more than 5,000 babies; a pulmonary specialist who grew up in the projects and was initially dissuaded from becoming a doctor by her high school guidance counselor; and the only female fetal surgeon in the world, among others.

Lifetime Television filmed three episodes at Memorial Hermann Healthcare Systems facilities, and shadowed the lives of 12 female physicians. The first episode featured orthopedic surgeon Dr. Laura Torres, neonatologist Dr. Terri Major-Kincade, OB/GYN Dr. Jane Reed, and breast surgeon Dr. Arlene Ricardo.

The next episode will air on Saturday, Sept. 8, and will feature Dr. Crystal Cassidy, an attending emergency room physician; Dr. Bea Cua, an attending pediatric intensive care unit physician, Dr. Alicia Mangram, chief resident of general surgery; and Dr. Patty Jane Ross, an OB/GYN.
