Web Site Stresses Molecular Biology to Surgeons Surgeons have online access to a training session in molecular biology approaches to surgery in a Web site developed through Baylor's Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery.
"It is critical for surgeons to understand the increasing importance of molecular biology in the treatment of surgical diseases," said Dr. F. Charles Brunicardi, chairman of Baylor's Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery. "The genetic basis of cancer formation and the use of new tumor markers have important applications for surgeons."
The Continuing Medical Education course on the Web site located at http://www.molecularsurgeon.org was developed for surgeons, surgical residents, and fellows. Its intent is to inform surgeons of diseases that are more amenable to molecular biology methods of diagnosis and treatment and to explain the current application strategies.
Baylor's Center for Collaborative and Interactive Technology designed the site.
