A Day of Beauty By PAUL HARASIM St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital St. Luke's Texas Cancer Institute and Partners in Healing hosted, for the second year, a "Day of Beauty" for cancer patients and survivors. Several hundred cancer survivors, family members, friends, oncology professionals, volunteers and the general public were in attendance. The event was part of National Cancer Survivors' Day 2001, a "Celebration of Life." As part of the Day of Beauty, Saks Fifth Avenue provided cosmetologists, representing cosmetic lines such as Chanel, Clarins and Christian Dior, for complimentary makeup hints and makeovers for cancer survivors and caregivers. Headwear, Etc. and Tony Magliaro's Hair Additions provided private wig consultations and demonstrations, as well as scarf and headwear demonstrations. Second Silhouette demonstrated foundations, fashions and headwear. St. Luke's oncology nurses, dietitians and chaplains staffed tables filled with educational material concerning specific cancers, treatments, cancer-related fatigue and other cancer topics. St. Luke's Texas Cancer Institute's Day of Beauty was first held last October. ©2006 Texas Medical Center E-Mail: tmcinfo@texmedctr.tmc.edu URL: http://www.tmc.edu/tmcnews/09_01_01/page_06.html |
