VA Center Dedicates New Facility Secretary of Veterans Affairs and member of President Bush's Cabinet Anthony J. Principi visited the Houston Veterans Affairs Medical Center Aug. 9 to deliver the keynote speech at a dedication ceremony for the new facility housing the Houston Center for Quality of Care and Utilization Studies.
The center is occupying new space in a Texas Medical Center-owned building at 2450 Holcombe Blvd.
Established in 1990, the HCQCUS is one of 11 VA Health Services Research and Development Centers of Excellence and a facet of the Section of Health Services, Department of Medicine, Baylor College of Medicine. Its focus is to systematically examine the impact of the organization, management and financing of health care services on the delivery, quality, cost, utilization and outcomes of care. All HCQCUS research, technical assistance and postdoctoral training directly or indirectly serve the needs of U.S. veterans and the VA health care system.
In dedicating the new facility, Principi said, "This research center represents a bright future for all veterans, and through the transfer of technology and methods, the work you do here will improve the quality of life for countless other Americans, young and old."
Prior to the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Principi presented an award to the Houston VA Medical Center for its efforts to aid the community during Tropical Storm Allison. ©2006 Texas Medical Center E-Mail: tmcinfo@texmedctr.tmc.edu URL: http://www.tmc.edu/tmcnews/09_01_01/page_04.html |
