It’s Summertime ... and the Reading’s Easy

The McGovern Museum of Health & Medical Science and Barnes & Noble booksellers have teamed up to offer a reading partnership for Storybook Science sessions held at the museum through Sept. 8.

Kids ages 3 through 7 will enjoy Storybook Science time featuring books related to the body, health and science. Storybook sessions last 30 minutes and are followed by a hands-on science activity. Kids will also receive a special reading list of books available at Barnes & Noble.

Youngsters visiting Barnes & Noble can experience additional storybook sessions held in the children’s department in most area stores. Check your store’s calendar of events for dates and times. Each participant will receive a bookmark, a health-topic reading list and make a "nerve necklace." They can also enter a drawing to win four free passes to the McGovern Museum of Health & Medical Science. At Barnes & Noble, when first- through sixth-grade children read eight books and return the completed form to the bookstore, they’ll get to choose a free book from the Barnes & Noble list.

Storybook Science is offered as part of the Summer of the Amazing Body programming, featuring the museum’s special exhibit, "Inside Out: The Visible Human," where visitors get an inside look at the human body as never seen before. Programs and special exhibits will be on display through Sept. 8.

Museum Storybook Science sessions are held are free with paid admission to the museum Sundays at 1 and 2 p.m., and on "Free Family Thursdays" from 4 to 7 p.m. For more information visit http://www.museumofhealth.org or call, (713) 521-1515.
