UT Medical School "Back in Business" By MEREDITH RAINE-MIDDLETON The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston After being closed for one month due to flooding caused by Tropical Storm Allison, The University of Texas Medical School at Houston resumed normal business operations July 9.
"Electricity and other utilities were thoroughly tested and restored, and all labs and offices were re-established, either in their original locations or in new, temporary locations," said Pico Mina, assistant vice president of facility operations.
The basement and the ground floors of the Medical School and the adjoining John Freeman Building remain closed for renovations, but faculty, staff and students have access to all other floors. Those who occupied space in the flood-damaged basement or ground floors are working from temporary offices elsewhere on the campus until renovations are completed.
To enter the building, use the breezeway entrance closest to the information desk or the entrance on the southeast side of the Medical School that faces Webber Plaza.
The UT-Houston Medical School suffered more than $205 million in flood damages. ©2006 Texas Medical Center E-Mail: tmcinfo@texmedctr.tmc.edu URL: http://www.tmc.edu/tmcnews/08_01_01/page_26.html |
