Memorial Hermann Featured in New TV Series By JONATHAN LOWE Memorial Hermann Healthcare System Now that Memorial Hermann Hospital and Memorial Hermann Children's Hospital have reopened, television production crews have moved in with the hospitals' staffs to spend four months shooting a six-episode docuseries. Tentatively titled "Heart of the City," the series will likely run in prime time on ABC next year.
Produced by the independent production company New Screen Concepts, the series will utilize Houston-based talent for their support team.
They will focus on the daily drama and behind-the-scenes lives of medical personnel rather than on clinical breakthroughs and new procedures.
"We've conceived the programs as a documentation of the lives flowing in and out of the hospital," said Chuck Bangert, executive producer and director. "There are a lot of dramatic stories at a major big city hospital like Memorial Hermann, and we've been given the freedom to tell them - no holds barred."
New Screen Concepts chose Memorial Hermann Hospital after visiting the top hospitals across the country, said Lou Gorfain, executive producer and writer.
"We were especially impressed with the commitment of the staff, the breadth and quality of medicine being practiced at Memorial Hermann and the fact that it's a renowned teaching hospital," Gorfain said. "But just as importantly, we appreciated the openness of the medical staff and administration to our cameras. "
"We've always known that there are limitless untold stories of courage and compassion taking place here every day," said James Eastham, CEO, Memorial Hermann Hospital. "We're excited to have the opportunity to have some of them told by producers with such impressive credentials."
New Screen Concepts, based in Connecticut and Los Angeles, has won numerous Emmys for informational programming on every major network, including "The Body Human" on CBS, "I Am Your Child" with Rob Reiner on ABC, "Yearbook" on Fox and "What Every Baby Knows" with Dr. T. Berry Brazelton on Lifetime. ©2006 Texas Medical Center E-Mail: tmcinfo@texmedctr.tmc.edu URL: http://www.tmc.edu/tmcnews/08_01_01/page_13.html |
