Summer Camps Teach Science, Health

John P. McGovern Museum of Health & Medical Science

Warm days outside and summer camps inside, make for a cool time at the John P. McGovern Museum of Health & Medical Science. Week-long Summer Discovery Camps, through Aug. 2., will be held Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with "before & after" care available – "before" begins at 8 a.m., "after" care is until 5:15 p.m.

Youngsters ages 6 to 13 can learn how to dissect a sheep’s brain, go on an adventure to find and learn about bugs, or get into "detective mode" to solve a mystery. They’ll have fun creating their own plants, making magical creatures, and learning about worms and gross things. Plus mini-med school classes will pique their curiosity about the world of health and medicine. Engaging field trips to hospitals, medical laboratories and different medical facilities will give kids an inside look at what it’s like to be a doctor and/or work in the health and medical field.

Rates range from $135 to $225 per week, depending upon museum membership/nonmembership and topic.

For more information or to receive a registration form, visit www.museumofhealth.org, or call (713) 942-7055.
