Pomp and Circumstance by KRISTINA VAN ARSDEL Texas Medical Center News The Michael E. DeBakey High School for Health Professions (DHSHP) held its commencement exercises on Saturday, June 3, at the George R. Brown Convention Center. Dr. Judith R. Campbell, a 1977 DHSHP graduate, gave the address before the 113 graduating seniors and their family and friends. During the high school's 25th anniversary celebration in 1997, Dr. Campbell, an assistant professor of pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine, told the TMC News, "Not only did I receive a sound education of the basics - English, math and science - but I was exposed to the art of medicine." This year's valedictorian Sunita Pal and salutatorian Nguyen Anh Tran will begin college at the University of Houston this fall as part of the Houston Premedical Academy program. A partnership between DHSHP, the University of Houston (UH) and Baylor College of Medicine, the Houston Premedical Academy is an eight-year program that offers DHSHP students conditional acceptance to Baylor upon graduation from UH, as well as scholarships to both institutions. ©2006 Texas Medical Center E-Mail: tmcinfo@texmedctr.tmc.edu URL: http://www.tmc.edu/tmcnews/06_15_00/page_05.html |
