Wellness Camps Teach Kids Healthy Lifestyles Looking for a fun and educational activity to keep kids busy during the summer? Texas Children’s Hospital is offering a series of four-day camps that teach nutrition to children and promote physical activity. Kids may use the Texas Children’s Wellness Center’s exercise facility to learn appropriate physical activity levels. Assessments provide feedback about each child’s current physical fitness level. Nutrition classes focus on menu planning, wise food choices, cooking healthy meals, reading food labels, appropriate ways to lose/maintain body weight, and planning healthy snacks. Daily group activities and field trips include swimming, ice skating, street hockey, and rock climbing, among others. Special invited guests will share expertise on nutrition, exercise and other wellness topics. Children ages 5 through 12 who are capable of participating in moderate to vigorous physical activities, including swimming, and who have no physical, emotional or medical limitations that may impose hardships may register. Each camp takes place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and enrolls a maximum of 10 campers. Enrollment is on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Cost is $250 each for single campers, $225 each for two campers, and $200 each for three or more campers. Children of Texas Children’s and Baylor College of Medicine employees receive a $25 discount. For additional information call (832) 822-3060, or visit www.texaschildrenshospital.org/wellness for registration packets.
