Manage Donations Digitally Web-surfing blood donors now have access to a new tool. The Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center’s “Digital Donor” site provides a high-tech and secure way to check cholesterol levels the day following donation, view cholesterol and donation history and update personal contact information. This first-of-its-kind Houston-area program also allows donors to choose telephone, e-mail or postal mail, when they would like to be notified of their next eligibility date. To join the program, visit Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center’s Web site at http://www.giveblood.org and click “Digital Donor.” Donating blood is simple. Potential donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good general health. There is no upper age limit for donors, and most medications do not interfere with donor eligibility. People can donate blood every 56 days, or every eight weeks up to six times annually. Plasma can be given twice a week and platelets 24 times a year. For additional information about donor eligibility or to schedule a donation appointment, call (713) 790-1200, 1-888-GV-BLOOD (1-888-482-5663), or visit the Blood Center’s Web site for neighborhood donation center information.
